Shirley Ellis records a song that she co-wrote with Lincoln Chase, “The Name Game”, as a follow-up to her #8 hit, “The Nitty Gritty”. Her latest effort would reach #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #4 on the R&B chart. As most of us figured out as kids, playing the game with names such as Alice, Dallas, Tucker, Chuck, Bart, Art, Marty, Mitch, Rich, Richie, Maggie, Ruby, Danny or Annie, results in profanity or rude language.

Johnny Rivers went to #1 on the Billboard singles chart with “Poor Side Of Town”. In the UK however, the record failed to become a hit.

Pink Floyd appeared at the Corn Exchange, Bedford, England. The set list for these early Floyd shows included: ‘Let’s Roll Another One’, ‘Gimme A Break’, ‘Interstellar Overdrive’, ‘Astronomy Domine’ and ‘Stoned Alone’. ‘Stoned Alone’ was also known as ‘I Get Stoned’, and was possibly the first song Syd Barrett wrote for Pink Floyd.

Donovan‘s “Mellow Yellow” is released and begins its climb to #8 in the UK and #2 in the US. It was long rumored that the song is about smoking dried banana skins, which was believed to be a hallucinogenic drug in the 1960s, but this rumor has since been debunked. The song’s title actually refers to the fact that Donovan had suffered from liver disease in early 1966 and had become severely jaundiced.

Lou Rawls reached the pinnacle of the R&B chart with “Love Is A Hurtin’ Thing”.

Simon & Garfunkel made a healthy move (81 to 47) with “A Hazy Shade Of Winter”.

Johnny Rivers scored the biggest hit of his great career as “Poor Side Of Town” went to #1.  The Monkees slid down with “Last Train To Clarksville”, ? & the Mysterians were at #3 with “96 Tears” and the Beach Boys moved from 17-4 with “Good Vibrations”.  The rest of the Top 10:  “Dandy” from Herman’s Hermits, the New Vaudeville Band jumped from 24-6 with “Winchester Cathedral”, the Supremes shot up from 27-7 with “You Keep Me Hangin’ On”, setting up a big battle for next week, Bobby Darin’s “If I Were A Carpenter” remained in the #8 position, Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels jumped from 18 to 9 with “Devil With A Blue Dress On/Good Golly Miss Molly” and James & Bobby Purify moved into the Top 10 with “I’m Your Puppet”.

The Lisa Marie, the newest craft in Elvis Presley's small air fleet, is at Memphis International Airport on November 12, 1975, getting final touches before being put to use for touring. The converted Convair 880, formerly used by Delta Air Lines, is named for the entertainer's daughter. It was bought for $1 million and it took another $750,000 to fix it to his taste in Forth Worth, Texas. While not as elaborate as some reports have had it, the plane should be quite comfortable for the Memphian and his personal crew.

It has a galley with stove, refrigerator and coffee maker, a private bedroom with queen-size bed, a dining room with eight chairs, two sitting rooms, two bathrooms with gold-plated fixtures and a shower in one, plus 29 seats for passengers. It requires a pilot, copilot, flight engineer and stewardess. Elvis also will keep the Lockheed Jetstar (smaller plane at left), a 9-seater, for touring purposes. On tours, he will need to lease a third plane for back-up groups, equipment and wardrobes. The small propeller plane is not part of his ‘air force.’
