Before working in the music business Parker was an elected dog catcher in Florida where he invented pet cemeteries, he often claimed to have worked in the carnival circuit, and had previously managed country singer Eddy Arnold.  Parker was eventually sued by the Elvis Estate, which established Parker’s fees were out of industry standards and he revealed he was not an American, belling it would protect him from court action. Cannon says her daughter, Kathleen ‘Kathy’ Selph, then 20, was being driven home by Elvis when the picture was shot by a photographer for The Commercial Appeal in June 1972. A neighbor showed her the photograph in the newspaper that week, and Cannon says she ‘reprimanded’ her daughter for dating a married man. That’s when she learned that Elvis and Priscilla Presley had separated.

The daughter, who had moved out of her parents’ home, had been working as a dancer and singer at the old Whirlaway Club, where a member of Elvis’ Memphis Mafia noticed she resembled Priscilla Presley, says Selph’s brother, Steve. His sister and Elvis were introduced and dated for a while, he says.

“The film? (Change of Habit) … it’s a change of pace for me, yeah. It’s more serious than my usual movies, but it don’t mean I’m aiming for a big dramatic acting scene, no sir. The way I’m headed, I want to try something different now, but not too different. I did this film because the script was good, and I guess I know by now what the public goes for. Most of the scripts that come my way are all the same. They’ve all got a load of songs in them, but I just did a western called ‘Charro!’ which hasn’t any songs ‘cepting the title tune. It did have a couple of nude scenes, but they’ve been cut. Anyhow, can you imagine a dramatic western where the hero breaks into song all the time?” — San Francisco Chronicle, June 8, 1969.
