Ed Sullivan called Elvis Presley’s manager to book Elvis for his show.

Elvis reported to the RCA studio at 2.00 p.m. This was the first time that Elvis took over full leadership of a session and he insisted on completing each song to his own satisfaction. Elvis Presley was an uncredited session producer – This was the first time The Jordanaires worked with Presley.

Elvis Radio debuted from a specially designed studio in the plaza of Graceland. The satellite radio station features a continuous variety of Elvis Presley music.

The world’s biggest music stars united in concerts around the world to put pressure on political leaders ahead of the G8 summit to tackle poverty in Africa. Concerts in 10 cities, including London, Philadelphia, Paris, Berlin, Johannesburg, Rome and Moscow played to hundreds of thousands of people. A TV audience of several hundred million watched the gigs.

Buddy Holly‘s widow, Maria Elena Holly, announced that she had entrusted the publishing rights to her late husband’s influential catalog to the artist’s performance rights group, BMG. The company was now authorized to administer royalties worldwide of nearly all of Holly’s recordings.

Songwriter Roy C. Bennett, who collaborated with writing partner Sid Tepper on more than 300 published songs, including nearly 50 of them for Elvis Presley movies, died at the age of 97, three months after Tepper’s death.
