The Beatles started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Paperback Writer’, the group’s 12th US No.1 – The final Beatles world tour kicked off in Munich, Germany.
Jackie Wilson was arrested for inciting a riot and refusing to obey a police order at a nightclub in Port Arthur, Texas. Wilson had a crowd of between 200 and 400 whipped into a frenzy and refused to stop singing when requested to do so by police. He was later convicted of drunkenness and fined $30.

200 million people saw The Beatles perform ‘All You Need Is Love’, live via satellite as part of the TV global link- up, ‘Our World’, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Graham Nash, Keith Moon and Gary Leeds provided backing vocals.

Afterwards he spent some time with the dancers and the Blossoms practicing the gospel medley. From 3.00 to 5.00 p.m. the Guitar Man segment was rehearsed by the entire crew.

Songwriter Boudleaux Bryant died. Wrote with his wife Felice, The Everly Brothers hits, ‘Bye Bye Love’, ‘All I Have To Do Is Dream’, ‘Wake Up Little Susie’ and ‘Raining In My Heart’ a hit for Buddy Holly. Other acts to record their song include Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, the Grateful Dead, Dolly Parton, Elvis Presley, The Beach Boys, Roy Orbison, Dean Martin, Ruth Brown, Cher, R.E.M. and Ray Charles. The song duo also composed “Rocky Top,” which became an anthem for the state of Tennessee.

The Ocean’s 11 Movie Remix of  Elvis Presley’s “A Little Less Conversation” was released.

In 2002, the TV special version of “A Little Less Conversation” remixed by Junkie XL was used for Nike‘s 2002 FIFA World Cup advertising campaign, titled Secret Tournament.[5] A single, credited to “Elvis vs. JXL”, was issued and went on to become a Number 1 hit in over 20 countries – but in the United States, the song peaked at number 50 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart, the first Hot 100 hit for Presley since 1981, and extending his list of charted singles into the 21st century.

Farrah Fawcett, the first person to sell a million posters, died at 52 and became the celebrity face of anal cancer.

Micheal Jackson died from medical addiction, following the filmed rehearsals for a comeback series of concerts.

The Yellow Cloud guitar owned by Prince was sold by Heritage Auctions in Beverly Hills, California, to Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay. A lock of David Bowie’s hair also sold for $18,750.

A shirt spattered with the blood of John Lennon was sold by Heritage Auctions for $40,819. The white button down shirt was worn by concierge Jay Hastings when he came to Lennon’s aid after the former Beatle was shot in front of The Dakota apartment building in New York on December 8th, 1980.
