1979

Supertramp‘s album, “Breakfast in America” rose to the top of the US album chart on the strength of three hit singles, “The Logical Song” (#6), “Goodbye Stranger” (#15), and “Take the Long Way Home” (#10). The LP would win two Grammys and sell in excess of 18 million copies worldwide.

1992

The Elvis Presley five-CD boxed set “The King Of Rock’n’Roll – The Complete 50’s Masters” was released. It peaked at #159 on the album chart and was certified a gold record on August 7, 1992, by the RIAA. Further certifications were for platinum on November 20, 1992, and for double platinum on July 30, 2002.

2012

The crypt in which Elvis Presley was first buried was withdrawn from a Los Angeles auction after protests it should be kept as a shrine. More than 10,000 fans signed a petition against the sale of the tomb at Forest Hill Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee. Julien’s Auctions said it would not sell the crypt until the cemetery “finds a plan that best suits the interests of the fans while respecting and preserving the memory of Elvis”.

2013

Bobby “Blue” Bland, who placed three songs on the Billboard Top 40, including 1962’s “Turn On Your Love Light”, passed away at the age of 83.
