Elvis performed at the Belden High School Gym, Belden, Mississippi. In order to avoid being mobbed, Elvis had to crawl through a back window. He ripped the seat of his pants, which he had to held together during his performance with a safety pin.

21 year old Kyu Sakamoto became the first Japanese artist to hit the top of the US singles chart with a song called “Sukiyaki”. It was also a #6 hit in the UK. The original title of the song was “Ue O Muite Aruko”, which translates “I Look Up When I Walk”. Sakamoto was killed on August 12th, 1985 when JAL Flight 123, a Boeing 747, crashed and burned on a thickly wooded mountain about 60 miles northwest of Tokyo. He was 43.

Elvis and The Col sent Frank Sinatra a telegram: “Dear Frank, Happy Father’s Day, enough said? Elvis and The Colonel.”

“Paradise Hawaiian Style,” co-starring Suzanna Leigh and James Shigeta, opened in U.S. and Canadian movie theaters.

Elvis was admitted to the Mid-South Hospital for 2 days for what the press reported as ‘an extensive eye examination’ but what is in fact cosmetic surgery around his eyes. Both Dr. Nick and the plastic surgeon try to talk him out of it, but Elvis insisted – he had convinced George Klein to do it ahead of himself.
