The filming of the promotional film for Bob Dylan’s Subterranean Homesick Blues took place at the side of the Savoy Hotel in London. Actors in the background were Allen Ginsberg and Bob Neuwirth. The original clip was actually the opening segment of D. A. Pennebaker’s film, Don’t Look Back, a documentary on Bob Dylan’s 1965 tour of England. In the film, Dylan, who came up with the idea, holds up cue cards for the camera with selected words and phrases from the lyrics. The cue cards were written by Donovan, Allen Ginsberg, Bob Neuwirth and Dylan himself. While staring at the camera, he flipped the cards as the song played.

The Elvis Presley album “Girl Happy” hit #7 in the U.K.

During filming of what became the documentary “Don’t Look Back,” Bob Dylan got the idea for one of the first music videos: a short film of his single “Subterranean Homesick Blues,” featuring him standing in an alley next to London’s Savoy Hotel flipping giant cue cards with the lyrics of the song on them.

Gerry and the Pacemakers announced they were disbanding, recognizing that they could “no longer keep pace with the rapidly changing UK rock scene.”

Elvis 22nd album was a soundtrack disc:”Girl Happy” hit #7 in the U.K. In the US, it peaked at number eight on the Top LP’s chart. It was certified Gold on July 15, 1999 by the Recording Industry Association of America.

Co-starring in the movie was TV actress/singer Shelly Fabres – a duet and a song by her in the movie and on the soundtrack might have increased sales to her fan base. A missed opportunity, even when there were movie duets, the soundtrack would be Elvis alone.

This disc was the 6th in a row that was a soundtrack LP, with only the Elvis Golden Records 3 collection of singles.

Bill Haley & His Comets and released on Decca Records: “Yeah, She’s Evil!”Haley actually recorded his version six days after  just before Elvis’ recording of the same song under the  different name of  “Meanest Girl in town” – and released his single before Elvis’s soundtrack. Burring that original vs cover line rather a lot.

The soundtrack single, a dance tune “Do the Clam” was released approximately a month ahead of the album as a single, peaking at number 21 and is perhaps Elvis’ dirtiest ditty.

Paul McCartney scored his fifth UK No.1 album with ‘Tug Of War’.
