When Presley’s troupe rolled into town for two shows on April 21, 1956, he had become already a national figure in the music business. He had appeared with the Dorsey Brothers and Milton Berle on their national TV shows, and his first RCA single, “Heartbreak Hotel” was only two weeks away from reaching the #1 spot on Billboard’s “Top 100” pop chart.
Elvis performed at the City Auditorium, Houston, Texas at 7.30 and 9.30 p.m.

President John F. Kennedy opened the Seattle World’s Fair by telegraph key from his Easter vacation in Florida on April 21, 1962, using the same telegraph key that President Taft had used to open the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition in Seattle in 1909.

The key triggered a radio telescope in Maine, which picked up an impulse from a star 10,000 light years away. This impulse was directed towards the fairgrounds to start the festivities, which included the release of 2,000 balloons, the ringing of the Space Needle’s 538 bell Carillon, 10 Air Force F-102s flying overhead and aerial bombs bursting and raining down tiny flags.

Among the celebrities who visited the fair were Attorney General Robert Kennedy and his family, England’s Prince Phillip, Danny Kaye, John Raitt, Sammy Davis Jr., Louis Armstrong, Victor Borge, Lawrence Welk, Johnny Mathis, Maurice Chevalier, John Wayne, Jack Lemmon, Vice President Lyndon Johnson, Carl Reiner, Carol Channing, George Burns, Jonas Salk, Rafer Johnson, Walt Disney, Richard Nixon, Lt. Col. John Glenn and even Lassie’.

It Happened at the World’s Fair’ was the fourth studio movie known to be made in Seattle and Elvismania soon set in the city.

Elvis Presley’s single “Good Luck Charm” hit #1 in the U.S,  his 29th Top 10 and his 54th hit in seven years.

Good Luck Charm” was published by Gladys Music, Elvis Presley’s publishing company, that reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 list in the week ending April 21, 1962. It remained at the top of the list for two weeks. It reached number one in the UK Singles Chart in the week ending 24 May 1962 and stayed there for five weeks. It completed his second hat-trick of chart topping singles in the UK.

Rather than a link in his perpetual chart success, the record foreshadowed a down turn in Elvis’s recording career. Good Luck Charm would reach #1 on the charts, but Presley would have just one more chart-topper in his career, and that wouldn’t come until over seven years later.

In addition, many of the composers who had provided Elvis’s hit tunes would stop writing for him after 1962. For all its success, Good Luck Charm caused a crisis in Elvis’s recording career.

the B-side  “Anything That’s Part Of You” was #31 in the U.S.

By VERNON SCOTT HOLLYWOOD (UPI) Would vou believe that Richard Burton and Peter O’Toole owe part of their current success to Elvis Presley? These two brilliant Shakespearean – trained actors, winning world – wide acclaim for their performances in “Becker,” might not have had the opportunity to star in the picture were it not for Sir Swivel Hips. Don’t laugh. It’s not that Elvis refused either the role of King Henry n or Becket. No. Elvis helped finance “Becket” indirectly. Producer Hal Wallis, who has made Presley’s biggest hits, also produced “Becket.” And were it not from the revenue of Elvis’ movies there might not have been the wherewithal to film “Becket.” Says Wallis: “In order to do the artistic pictures it is necessary to make the commercially succeesful Presley pictures. But that doesn’t mean a Presley picture can’t have quality, too.” Wallis is that one producer !n a million who turns out movies for all audiences. He doesn’t fall Into the category of artistic souls.

The album that very likely could be one of The Top Soundtracks of the Rock Era was Footloose, which began a ten week run at the top of the Billboard album chart on the strength of the title track by Kenny Loggins and “Let’s Hear It For The Boy” by Deniece Williams —  besting the Michael Jackson album Thriller which fell to #3.  The move ended Thriller’s run of 37 non-consecutive weeks at #1.

1970’s Shock Rocker Alice Cooper reveals that he once held a loaded gun at Elvis in 1971.

Alice Cooper Talks Elvis: Seventies rocker Alice Cooper is still touring he recently recounted the story of his first meeting with Elvis during an interview with The Clarion-Ledger about Cooper’s upcoming shows in Tupelo and Biloxi.
He recalled “As I held a loaded .38 revolver on Elvis Presley, the little devil on my shoulder said, ‘Shoot him. What a great story. Don’t kill him, just shoot him.'” The king of shock shooting the king of rock ‘n roll in 1971 would have, no doubt, made international headlines. But seconds later, Cooper said, he found himself on the floor in Elvis’ hotel suite kitchen, the gun knocked far away and Elvis saying, “That’s how you take a gun out of somebody’s hand.”
“I had a great relationship with Elvis,” Cooper said.

“… In 1971, I was in Las Vegas, and I get a call: Elvis wants to meet you … I went to the Hilton, got in an elevator and in the elevator is Liza Minnelli, Chubby Checker, Linda Lovelace and me … We get up there and Elvis comes walking in and says, ‘Hey man, you’re the kid with the snake, right? That’s cool man. I dig that makeup, dig that whole thing.’ He takes me into the kitchen and says, ‘I want to show you how to take a gun out of somebody’s hand.'”Elvis and I had this very strange kind of mutual admiration kind of thing for each other,” said Cooper, who took shocking audiences to levels of which Elvis probably never dreamed. “Elvis liked that I was doing something he had done – shock the kids, shock the audience. He loved the fact that somebody was still doing it.”

Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino’s chief operating officer Mark Waltrip has noted that hundreds of Elvis artefacts and memorabilia including stage outfits, jewellery and letters from Elvis’ career still remain locked up at the casino site where the now-shuttered “Graceland Presents Elvis” attraction once stood. This is a one year after the EPE filed a lawsuit to get those valuables back from a panned 10 year exhibit that closed in the first year, even as Vegas named a street for Elvis Presley in 2016.
