The Chords recorded their doo-wop composition “Sh-Boom,” covered later that year by the Crew-Cuts.

Elvis worked at Precision Tool company, operating a drill press for $1.55 a hour from September 21, 1953 to March 19, 1954

The Presleys lived at 2414 Lamar Avenue, rented end of 1954 to mid-1955

At Cosimo Studios in New Orleans, Fats Domino recorded his composition “Ain’t It A Shame,” covered later that year by Pat Boone as “Ain’t That A Shame”
Elvis signed an amended one-year agreement with Bob Neal from which Neal would receive a 15 percent management fee.

The Presleys  lived at  1414 Getwell Street rented from mid-1955 to May, 11 1956.

Elvis performed at the Fox Theatre, Atlanta, Georgia at.4.30, 7,18 and 10.06 p.m. for the second day. He was paid $1,831.54, what was 50% of the net proceeds, for the 2-day engagement.

A blurb in the March 15th edition of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution read:
Teen-Agers Agog At Presley Show
– Teen-aged Atlantans turned out en masse to applaud Elvis Presley, semihillbilly singing sensation, who appeared on stage at the Fox Theater during matinee and evening shows Wednesday.  Turnaway throngs, predominantly “rock and roll” fans, are expected again Thursday, the final day here for the RCA-Victor recording artist.”

In Los Angeles, Elvis Presley began filming his 19th movie, “Harum Scarum,” co-starring Mary Ann Mobley, Fran Jeffries, Michael Ansara, and Jay Novello.
Joe Esposito, whom was fired by Elvis on the ride home to Memphis in August 1964 returned to the group to become “co-foreman” with Marty Lacker.

Spinout 

At EMI’s Abbey Road Studios in London, George Harrison began recording his composition “Within You Without You,” at this point called “Untitled,” for the Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” album. Harrison was the only member of the Beatles who played on the track, which was completed with overdubs on March 22 and April 3.
Elvis was still in Palm Springs, recuperating from his fall, so wasn’t able to attend the wedding between Jerry Schilling and Sandy Kawelo.

At RCA Studio B in Nashville, Elvis Presley recorded four songs, including two Gordon Lightfoot compositions,
 Everybody hoped for the same success of the previous year, but there were problems from the start. Finally Elvis called the session off, at 1.30 a.m. because of discomfort in his eye.
Priscilla flew to California to supervise the redecorating of the new house.
Elvis arrived in Nashville for a session at RCA’s Studio B.

CBS-TV announced its intention to cancel “The Ed Sullivan Show” after 23 years. At the time, it was American television’s longest-running series.

Disc jockey Robert W. Morgan of Los Angeles radio station KHJ played Donny Osmond’s “Puppy Love” for 90 minutes straight. Police eventually raided the station fearing foul play, but discovered a publicity stunt instead.

Elvis Presley’s album “Promised Land” hit it’s top position of #47 on the Billboard Top 200 , reached 1 in Billboard’s Top Country LPs chart and #1 in the Country Cashbox albums chart. In the UK the album reached #21.

In Columbus, Ohio, Elvis Costello got into an argument with singers Stephen Stills and Bonnie Bramlett at a Stills concert afterparty. Allegedly attempting to get Bramlett so disgusted she’d stop arguing, a drunk Costello referred to James Brown as a “jive-ass n*****” and Ray Charles as a “blind, ignorant n******.” Bramlett responded by punching Costello in the face. At a press conference the following day, Costello explained, “It became necessary for me to outrage these people with about the most obnoxious and offensive remarks that I could muster.” Later he personally apologized to Brown and Charles and did some work with the Rock Against Racism project.

Relatives of Buddy Holly filed a suit against MCA Records for allegedly hoarding royalty payments, forging contracts and illegally producing albums without the consent of the family.

A rare autographed copy of the Beatles album, “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” sold at auction for £34,000, approximately $59,000 (US).

In Australia, an interview with Lisa Marie Presley was broadcast in which she said that she had seen things she “couldn’t do anything about” during her marriage to Michael Jackson. She clarified her remarks two days later and included that she had never seen Jackson engage in inappropriate behavior with kids.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, parts of Fats Domino’s three pianos were discovered and saved by the Louisiana State Museum after attempting to salvage his Ninth Ward home in New Orleans.
