Elvis @ Louisiana Hayride

Elvis Presley played the juke joints at highway intersections, night clubbing his way to the bottom of the bill on the country circuit. They also played a lot of high schools and State Fairs.

The Louisiana Hayride made stars while the Grand Ole Opry played stars.

Over the years, recordings made from radio and even the Hayride tv pilot audio has surfaced, so there may yet be a change for the single Grand Ole Opry appearance that Elvis and The Blue Moon Boys did.

The radio and the tv broadcasts have been released independently over the decades, especially with the advent of cd recording and then, the internet. On The Hayride, Elvis did his concert and club act, mostly known songs done in his own unique manner. The King of Western Bop, The Hillbilly Cat, Rockabilly and then Rock n Roll.

The Originals got all the Elvis that there was, according to their demand, while now, it’s every scrap that there was.

Elvis, Hank and Me by Horace Logan is an excellent read about the Hayride/Opry rivalry, the end of Hank Williams and the rise of Elvis Presley.

It is hard to believe that when Elvis was alive, he was not taken seriously and little, rather no thought, was spent on documenting and archiving.

The media was unprepared for Elvis at the start and end of his career, as one of the then 3 networks learned, when they didn’t lead with Elvis’ death.

The Media was ready for The Beatles, and they have tried to re-create that, and pretty much as soon as a one hit wonder is called The New Elvis, they vanish, like actors who play Jesus Christ.
