Elvis was visited by Juan Juanico for a couple of days. Because of the many fans around the house they stayed inside for most of the time. However during the night Elvis and June did go out to see some newsreel footage at the local theater. Unfortunately fans saw the limousine and vandalized it.

The movie musical “My Fair Lady” made its world premier in New York.

Bill Black, leader of Bill Black’s Combo and Elvis Presley’s original bass player, died from a brain tumor. Black’s biggest solo hit was “White Silver Sands”, an instrumental that made it into the US Top Ten in 1960.
Elvis was quoted in the Commercial Appeal as saying that Bill ” was a great man and a person that everyone loved. This comes as such a shock to me that I can hardly explain how much I loved Bill”.
Elvis didn’t attend the funeral, as he was afraid of causing disruption.

Bill Black played stand up bass, and he knew how to work an audience. You slapped that bass, spun it around, dance with it like it’s a gal, ride it like a hog and never ever – miss a lick.
Bill Black worked at day job and played clubs with the Starlight Wranglers, a country band with Scotty Moore. Neither was impressed with the greasy boy in the pink suit when he showed up with his battered starter guitar.

Elvis Presley wanted to be Tony Curtis and Dean Martin, a sentimental playboy crooner. All those wrong elements came together when Elvis dug deeper than that shallow dream and into the music that really mattered – finding a bit a happy in an otherwise bleak life – rock n roll – a fusion of country/blues imbued with a gospel fervor, profaning the sacred and putting Women’s Sexuality on Public Display.

Elvis, Scotty and Bill recorded those first pivotal sides. DJ Fontana joined in at the hayride and gave Elvis a burlesque beat.

Bill, Scotty and DJ appear in Love Me Tender and Loving You and Jailhouse Rock as band members or session musicians.

As much as Elvis Presley was noted by up n commers in music or movies to give advise and often a hand up – networking introductions – There is no way around it. Elvis screwed over Scotty and Bill – and his music suffered for it.

Bill Black and Scotty Moore stayed pals but had separate careers. Bill formed a combo and opened for The Beatles on their north american tour.

If Bill had lived, I doubt he would have played the 68 special and probably Scotty wouldn’t have either. DJ Fontana would have.
But the magic of that show wasn’t the production numbers – it was mostly that bit in the round of Elvis face to face with 2 of the three guys he started with. The crowning part was Elvis alone in the boxer ring round, proving he was the It Performer.

The glaring differences in musical tastes between the United States and Great Britain were never more evident than when “To Sir With Love” by Lulu hit number one in the US, where it would stay for 5 weeks. The record didn’t even chart in the UK.

Seventeen years after having hits with some of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s most memorable classics, Chuck Berry his first and only US and UK was “My Ding-a-Ling”, a college novelty song about masturbation.  It was recorded live at Coventry Lanchester Polytechnic in England as part of the Lanchester Arts Festival, for which Berry turned up an hour and a half late.
It blocked Elvis’ Burning Love single from #1, and he’d not have another #1 during his lifetime.

Queen’s single “Killer Queen” was released.
Dr Ghanem ordered a series of tests to determine the cause of Elvis’ intestinal problems. These turned up a ” nonpenetrating ulcer crater” along with “edematous mucosal folds”. Elvis stayed in a special wing of Dr. Ghanem’s home, for celebrity patients. Elvis had to go through a new “sleep diet”, consisted of liquid nourishment and sedated rest.
Elvis had contractual commitments to RCA and the Colonel had come up with several ideas to fulfill these.
A collection of movie title tracks, an album especially for children and so forth. RCA had not yet responded to any of his suggestions, so now the Colonel went to RCA with a telegram from Elvis:
” I would like to work on an album for early ’76 release, where I would do a combination, part conventional and part live from Las Vegas, during my Dec. 2-15 engagement. This would give a much better flavor with all the new material. Best regards, Elvis”
Nothing came from this suggestion.

Elvis The Wonder Of You.jpeg
The Wonder of You is a compilation album by American singer Elvis Presley (1935–77). It was released on October 21, 2016 by RCA Records and Legacy Recordings. The album features archival vocal recordings of Elvis accompanied by new orchestral arrangements by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, recorded at the Abbey Road Studios. It also features a duet with German singer Helene Fischer.
The album debuted at #1 on the UK Albums Chart earning a BPI Silver award in its debut week with sales of 63,500

It is Elvis’ 13th UK number-one album, making him the solo artist with most UK number-one albums (and overall only behind The Beatles with 15 number-one albums).[5] Elvis also extended the record for most UK top 10 albums, with The Wonder of You becoming his 52nd top 10 album.[6] It became the year’s 5th top selling album, and the biggest seller by a US artist, the top four being Adele “25”, Coldplay’s “A Head Full Of Dreams”, Justin Bieber’s “Purpose”, and Michael Ball & Alfie Boe’s “Together” (three UK artists and a Canadian). Finally, it was also the #2 album released in the UK in 2016, after “Together” and by extension, the top selling album released in 2016 by a non UK artist.

In the United States, the album debuted at #1 in the Billboard Classical Chart, making it Presley’s second stay at the top on that chart, after last year’s “If I can dream”. It has thus far remained inside that chart’s Top 20 for 21 weeks.

Worldwide, and according to the Mediatraffic Global Chart Report March 8, 2017, the album has thus far sold 725,000 units.
